Beginning with OS/400 V5R2, IBM i NetServer has integrated support for the Samba client running on Linux. The support extends to Linux running on various platforms, included both Intel and PowerPC (running on an iSeries partition) hardware.
What is Samba?
Samba is an Open Source client and file server compatible with Microsoft Networking, that comes with many current distributions of Linux. For more information on Samba, Samba commands, or to download the latest version, see http://www.samba.org (link resides outside of ibm.com).
The support that is being provided here allows a Linux client running Samba to connect to iSeries Support for Windows Network Neighborhood (IBM i NetServer) through the smbclient and smbmount client utilities. ASCII printing (text, PDF, postscript) is supported through the smbclient utility.
Requirements
- Linux kernel version 2.4.4+
