System i Navigator

System i Navigator has seen many new and improved functions for V5R3, both under the covers and in the interface. We've been dotting the I's and crossing T's in Management Central, System Values, Network, Database, Integrated File System, Intelligent Agents, AFP Manager, Backup and BRMS, and Advanced Job Scheduler.

New functions:

• Edit endpoint systems IP addresses
• Automatically reset file and message monitors after running a command
• Performance advisor, designed to help solve performance issues.

Updated functions:

• More complete search results when searching for users across systems
• Copy from Media now allows concurrent copying from different systems
• Printer Output and Messages redesigned
• TCP/IP SNTP and SMTP support, CIMOM server support, QoS, and eSupport (for connecting to IBM electronic customer support)

New functions:

• Synchronize EIM and Kerberos across a group of endpoint systems

Updated functions:

• Two new Collection Services categories for cross-partition data and data port services data
• System Monitor properties for multipath disk units and remotely mirrored independant auxiliary storage pools were added to the following System Monitor Metrics:

• User Defined File System (UDFS):
  • Specify default file format for UDFS

• Intelligent Agents provides system administrators with an easy way to manage many Agent Building and Learning Environments (ABLE) agents running on different systems

Updated functions:

• Intelligent routing lets you specify any combination of stream file, spooled file, or e-mail for PDF files
• Respool an input file (or a segment of the file) as an AFP for print or fax
• Specify a PDF administrator to receive failure messages via e-mail with the PDF attached
• Encrypt the e-mailed PDF
• PDF mapping allows you to access functions that require mapping programs

New functions:

• Global Policy Properties for Maintenance, Retrieval and Network options
• Reclaim wizard to reclaim old fragmented tape volumes to make them usable again
• Manage BRMS devices including standalone devices, media libraries, and Tivoli Storage Manager (TRM) servers
