New in V6R1, IBM Systems Director Navigator for i is a web-based console that consolidates all of the Navigator for i functions available on the web. IBM Systems Director Navigator for i is the strategic tool for i5/OS management and will work in concert with IBM Systems Director products that enable heterogeneous and cross-system management.
Beginning in V5R3 and continuing with V5R4, Navigator for i tasks were made available on the web via individual URLs. Each URL represents an individual task in Navigator for i. For example, the following URL allows you to work with the list of active jobs:

By V5R4 there were approximately 100 tasks available in this manner on the web. Now, in V6R1, we have over 300 tasks available on the web! However, you no longer need to remember specific URLs for each task, since all these tasks are now available via an easy to use web console. Instead, you only need to remember one URL, which takes you to the console:

Thirteen task categories appear in the task navigation area when you open the "IBM i Management" category. These task categories are closely aligned with the main task folders you see within Navigator for i. Additional task categories may appear underneath IBM i Management if you have installed various Navigator for i plugins (such as BRMS and High Availability). After just a couple of clicks, your desired task appears as a portlet within the console's work area. Multiple tasks can be active at one time, as each task portlet has its own "tab" appearing at the top of the work area for easy access.

The IBM Systems Director Navigator for i console allows you to easily manage a single i5/OS partition without having to purchase or install anything.
