How Do You Perform a Task?

After signing onto the console with your i5/OS user profile name and password, open the "IBM i Management" category and select the desired task category. For example, to work with active jobs, click on the "Work Management" task category. This displays the Work Management welcome page portlet in the work area.

 Work Management welcome page

On each task category welcome page the key tasks are listed as links. In this case, "Active Jobs" is one of the key tasks, so just click on the "Active Jobs" link to display the Active Jobs portlet.

Notice that a new portlet "tab" has appeared at the top of the work space.

If the task you need is not listed on the welcome page, click on the "Show All Tasks" button to display a table containing all tasks for that category.

Show All Tasks

Select the task you want by clicking in the Select column next to the task, then press the OK button at the bottom of the table.

If you have several tasks open at the same time, you can use the "Manage Open Pages" function from the "Select Action" dropdown above the work area to jump to the desired page, or close one or more pages that are no longer needed.

Manage Open Pages

If you have a task that you use often, and want it to be displayed in the work area every time you sign on to the console, add that page as a startup page by selecting the "Add Page to My Startup Pages" function from the "Select Action" dropdown at the top of the work area.

Where are the i5/OS Tasks that used to be shown via the 2001 port ?

Prior to i 6.1, the URL ...

http://{i5system}:2001

...would display the i5/OS Tasks page. The web-based tasks that appeared on that page can now be accessed by clicking on the "i5/OS Tasks" link that appears on the IBM Systems Director for i5/OS Welcome Page.

HTTP Server Needs to be Running

The HTTP Server needs to be running in order for the IBM Systems Director Navigator for i console to be available. Here is where the HTTP Server is shown in the Navigator for i application:

If the HTTP Admin server has been stopped for some reason and needs to be restarted, make sure the following six jobs appear for the QHTTPSVR subsystem BEFORE you try to use the console on that system:
