Domino Fax for i5/OS

Overview Products i5/OS integration Developers Support

Performance
The following tables summarize the results of performance testing that was conducted on Lotus Fax for Domino for AS/400, Release 4.1. We cannot guarantee that exactly the same results would be obtained with Domino Fax for i5/OS, but expect that the results would be similar and they are still useful for planning purposes. In addition, Fax performance depends on a wide variety of variables and the following information should be viewed as examples of possible performance and not as guarantees of specific performance in your unique network and messaging infrastructure.

These tests focused primarily on fax throughput. Our testing indicates that casual faxing does not generally add a significant burden to a Domino for AS/400 server. You might choose to implement a separate Domino server on your iSeries server for administrative reasons, but from a performance standpoint, it is generally not necessary.

FxD was used to broadcast multiple copies of individual faxes to multiple recipients. In the first set of tests, represented by Table 1 below, Fax for Domino was converting and sending “text-only” faxes. In the second set of tests, Table 2, Fax for Domino was converting and sending faxes that were composed of approximately 50% text and 50% graphics. In both sets of tests, the cover page was either the Fax for Domino default cover or a different, non-default cover page.

The hardware and software used for the tests are summarized at the end of this page.

Hardware and software used for FxD performance tests
AS/400

  • Model 650, Processor Feature 2189 (12-way)
    Notes:
    1. AS/400 logical partitions ( LPAR) were used so that 4 processors were devoted to the partition sending faxes and 4 processors were devoted to the partition receiving faxes. (The remaining 4 processors were not used in this test.)
    2. This system was used due to hardware availability but multiple processors are not necessary to achieve the documented results. You can expect similar results using a single processor system.
  • OS/400 Version 4 Release 4, Domino for AS/400 server 5.0.2c
  • Separate FxD Administration
  • For 7852 tests, the receiving system also used a 7852 (single port)
  • For 2761 tests, the receiving system used all 8 ports of a 2761

Fax Windows Services system

  • IBM Personal Computer 300PL (550 MHz Pentium III processor) with 192 MB RAM and plenty of available disk space
  • Microsoft Windows NT Server 4.0
  • Notes 5.0.2c (International)
