Domino Fax Log Messages: Error Code 11409
Code Description, Cause & Recovery
11409 Description:
Windows Fax Conversion Service thread conversion error x occurred.

Cause:
The Windows Fax Conversion Service running on the Fax Windows Services System has received a fax conversion request, but either an internal error occurred or a required program that is needed to convert the fax does not exist. This fax cannot be converted. Select one of the following to view more detailed information based on the value of error code x:

Error code x is 4
Error code x is 5
Error code x is 9
Error code x is 4: The Windows Fax Conversion Service cannot allocate the required internal memory. The Windows Fax Conversion Service probably continues to run, but the Fax server thread that is communicating with this particular Windows Fax Conversion Service thread is ended.

Recovery: For an immediate solution, restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversions. Make sure to reboot your Fax Windows Services System when the instructions indicate to do so.

You may need to take additional action to avoid this problem in the future. Determine if either of the following are true:

  • There are a significant number of Fax servers which are all configured to use the same Fax Windows Services System.
  • This Windows Fax Conversion Service is attempting to handle several large fax conversion requests simultaneously.

If either of the above statements is true, then do one of the following:

  • Configure some of your Fax servers to use a different Fax Windows Services System which is less busy.
  • Upgrade your current Fax Windows Services System to handle the heavy fax conversion workload.

If this Windows Fax Conversion Service is not encountering a heavy workload, you should be able to solve the problem by restarting the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System.

Error code x is 5: A Windows process (nfxconv.exe) that is required for converting fax documents is not active on the Fax Windows Services System. This Windows process was either ended by the Windows NT administrator or an error caused it to end. The Windows Fax Conversion Service probably continues to run, but the Fax server thread that is communicating with this particular Windows Fax Conversion Service thread is ended.

Note: No more outgoing fax attachments or incoming faxes can be converted until this Windows process is restarted by the Windows Fax Conversion Service.

Recovery: To restart this Windows process, restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversions. If this does not solve your problem, restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System again and make sure to reboot your Fax Windows Services System when the instructions indicate to do so.

Error code x is 9: The Windows Fax Conversion Service cannot create an internal object needed to manage this particular fax. Without this object, the corresponding fax spool job in the Fax Spool Mailbox database cannot be updated appropriately. The Windows Fax Conversion Service continues to run, but the Fax server thread that is communicating with this particular Windows Fax Conversion Service thread is ended.

Recovery: Restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversion. Make sure to reboot your Fax Windows Services System when the instructions indicate to do so. If the problem continues, you may have trouble accessing the Fax Spool Mailbox database on the Fax server. Complete the following steps:

  • From your Fax Windows Services System, verify that the Notes user ID being used by the Windows Fax Conversion Service is correct. Complete these steps to ensure that the user ID file is the one you created when you installed Fax using the Domino Fax for i5/OS Installation Guide:
    • Start the Notes client.
    • From the Notes client menu bar, select File - Tools - User ID...
    • Verify that the User ID information displayed is correct. If it is correct, close the User ID window and continue to the next step. If it is not correct, do the following:
      • Close the User ID window.
      • From the Notes client menu bar, select File - Tools - Switch ID...
      • Open the correct User ID that the Windows Fax Conversion Service should use.
      • Restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversions.
  • If the previous step did not solve your problem, examine the Fax Spool Mailbox (NFXSPOOL.NSF) database's Access Control List (ACL) to make sure that the Notes user ID that is being used by the Windows Fax Conversion Service has the necessary authorities. (By default, the Notes user ID is given Manager access without authority to delete documents.) If the ACL is correct, continue to the next step. If the ACL is not correct:
  • If the previous steps did not solve your problem, make sure that this particular Fax Windows Services System has a TCP/IP connection to the Domino server. If TCP/IP is configured correctly, continue to the next step. Otherwise, configure TCP/IP by using one or more of the following four methods:
    • In the Personal Address Book located on the Fax Windows Services System, create a new Notes server connection document for the Domino server where Fax is running.
    • Contact your network administrator to make sure your Domain Name Server (DNS) includes the host name of the Domino server where Fax is running.
    • On your Fax Windows Services System, create a new LMHOSTS table entry for the Domino server where Fax is running.
    • Contact your Notes administrator to determine the correct configuration for successful communications between the Domino server and the Notes client on the Fax Windows Services System.
When you have corrected the TCP/IP configuration, restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversion.
  • If the previous steps did not solve your problem, make sure that the Fax Spool Mailbox database (NFXSPOOL.NSF) exists on the iSeries server. If it does exist, continue to the next step. If it does not exist, reinstall Domino Fax for i5/OS, and then restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversion.
  • If none of the previous steps solved your problem, do the following:
    • Start the Notes client on the Fax Windows Services System.
    • Try to open the Fax Spool Mailbox database (NFXSPOOL.NSF) located on the Fax server which is having problems. If you encounter an error opening NFXSPOOL.NSF, correct the error and then restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversion.
    • If you are able to open NFXSPOOL.NSF, attempt to open the different NFXSPOOL.NSF fax jobs listed in the "Fax Jobs" database view. If you are unable to open one or more fax jobs, do the following:
      • Restart the entire network of Fax servers that use this Fax Windows Services System for fax conversion.
      • Open the NFXSPOOL.NSF database again.
      • Try to open the NFXSPOOL.NSF fax jobs that you were unable to open previously.
      • If you are able to open the fax jobs now, this problem has been solved. If you still cannot open the fax jobs, do the following:
        • From the appropriate Administrator Workstation, stop Fax on ALL Domino servers running Fax that use this particular Fax Windows Services System for fax conversions.
        • Restart Fax on each Domino server that you previously stopped.

If the problem continues, report the problem to your service provider.
