Description:
Error
x communicating with Windows Fax Conversion Service while initializing thread t. Additional information is
y :
z.
Cause:
An error occurred when the Fax server attempted to initialize communications with the Windows Fax Conversion Service running on the Fax Windows Services System. No faxes can be sent or received until the Fax server initializes communications with the corresponding Fax Windows Services System. Error codes and their meanings follow. Please note the values of additional information
y and
z, then select one of the following to get more detailed information based on the error code
x:
|
Error code
x is 1:
Unable to create an OS/400 TCP/IP communications socket while initializing a Fax thread. There may be a problem with TCP/IP on the iSeries server.
Recovery: From the Administrator Workstation for your Domino server, complete the following:
- Stop Fax.
- Determine if TCP/IP is active on the iSeries server. Use the Start TCP/IP (STRTCP) command to start TCP/IP if it is not already active.
- Start Fax.
If TCP/IP is already active or the problem still exists, contact your network administrator.
|
Error code
x is 3:
Unable to connect to the Windows Fax Conversion Service while initializing a Fax server thread. There are several possible reasons:
- The Fax Windows Services System used by this Fax server is not active.
- The Windows Fax Conversion Service is currently not active on the Fax Windows Services System.
- The Fax server and the Windows Fax Conversion Service are configured to use different TCP/IP ports.
- Your machines and TCP/IP network are not configured correctly.
Note: Additional information
z may be useful in solving this problem. The value of
z indicates the specific error returned when the Fax server attempted to establish a connection with the Windows Fax Conversion Service. (
Click here for more information regarding the value of
z.)
Recovery: Complete the following steps:
- From the Administrator Workstation for your Domino server,
stop Fax.
- Make sure that the Fax Windows Services System that your Fax server is attempting to use is powered on and running properly. If it is not running, power on the system.
- Once the Fax Windows Services System is running properly, make sure that the Fax server is attempting to connect to the same port number that is configured for the Windows Fax Conversion Service:
- Determine which port the Fax Conversion Service on the Fax Windows Services System is using.
- Open the notes.ini file of the Domino server where you are running Fax.
- Find the
$FAXFMTCVTPORT environment variable and set it equal to the port being used by the Fax Conversion Service.
- Now that the TCP/IP ports are configured correctly, make sure that the Windows Fax Conversion Service is started on the Fax Windows Services System. (See
Determining if Fax Conversion Service is Active.) If it is not active,
start the Windows Fax Conversion Service.
- From the Administrator Workstation for your Domino server,
start Fax.
If the problem still exists, contact your network administrator.

Error code
x is 5:
The Fax server cannot send the Domino Fax version and release information to the Windows Fax Conversion Service running on the Fax Windows Services System. This information is necessary to verify that both pieces of software are operating at the same level.
Recovery: Based on the value of additional information
y, select one of the following:

Error code
x is 6:
An error occurred while the Fax server waited for a response from the Windows Fax Conversion Service regarding its version and release information. This information is necessary to verify that both pieces of software are operating at the same level.
Recovery: Based on the value of additional information
y, select one of the following:
|
Error code
x is 11:
The Fax server cannot send initialization information to the Windows Fax Conversion Service running on the Fax Windows Services System. This information is necessary to start up a Windows Fax Conversion Service thread that can then convert fax images.
Recovery: Based on the value of additional information
y, select one of the following:
|
Error code
x is 12:
An error occurred while the Domino Fax for i5/OS waited for a response from the Windows Fax Conversion Service indicating that it had successfully received and handled all of the Domino Fax initialization information.
Recovery: Based on the value of additional information
y, select one of the following:

A communications error occurred while the Fax server was sending data to or receiving data from the Windows Fax Conversion Service. The value of
y indicates the type of error that occurred:
- Communications timed out (0)
- Communications error occurred while the Fax server waited to send or receive data (-1)
- TCP/IP communications link ended unexpectedly (-2)
- Communications error occurred while the Fax server was actually sending and receiving data (-3)
To resolve the communications problem between the Fax server and the Windows Fax Conversion Service, complete ALL of the following steps:
- From the Administrator Workstation for your Domino server,
stop Fax.
- Go to the Fax Windows Services System and make sure that it is operating properly. If it is not,
stop the Windows Fax Conversion Service (if possible), and reboot the Windows system.
- When the Fax Windows Services System is operating properly, make sure that the Windows Fax Conversion Service is actually started. (See
Determining if Fax Conversion Service is Active.) If it is not active,
start the Windows Fax Conversion Service.
- With the Fax Conversion Service active, determine if the Fax Windows Services System's performance is being degraded significantly for some reason. There are several possible reasons: several different Fax servers may be using the same Fax Windows Services System and making many fax conversion requests, there may be a significant number of simultaneous, large fax conversion requests, or one or more Windows processes may not be executing properly. You may need to configure your Fax server to use a different Fax Windows Services System which is less busy or upgrade your current Fax Windows Services System to handle the heavy fax conversion workload. If you have one or more runaway or misbehaving Windows processes, end those processes.
Note: Make sure that the process is indeed a runaway process before ending it. It may simply be processing a very large Notes attachment.
- From the Administrator Workstation for your Domino server,
start Fax.
- If the problem still exists, you may have a TCP/IP network problem. Contact your network administrator.
Note: The value of additional information
z may provide more information to help determine the cause and recovery of this problem.

z.

The Fax server cannot allocate required internal memory. From the Administrator Workstation for your Domino server, run the Work with Domino Servers (WRKDOMSVR) command to display the list of Domino servers configured on your iSeries server. Select option
9 for the Domino server that is running Fax to bring up the Work with Active Jobs display:
- If
FAX is listed on the Work with Active Jobs display, do the following:
- Select option
5 for the FAX job. This brings up a Work with Job display.
- Select option
10 to display the FAX job log.
- Read the messages to determine the cause and recovery of this problem.
- Stop Fax and then correct the problem.
- Start Fax.
- If
FAX is not listed on the Work with Active Jobs display, do the following:
- Use the Work with Spooled Files (WRKSPLF) command and specify
QNOTES for the User option and
FAX for the User data option of the
SELECT parameter. This displays a list of FAX job logs.
- Find the FAX job log that corresponds to this particular problem and choose option
5 to display it.
- Read the messages to determine the cause and recovery of this problem.
- Stop Fax and then correct the problem.
- Start Fax.
