 Domino Fax for i5/OS
Updated: June, 2006
 | | |
These instructions apply only to Domino Fax V4R4. No special instructions are necessary when installing Domino Fax V4R5 on Domino 6 or Domino 7 servers.
After upgrading your server to Domino 6 or Domino 7 and installing the
latest Domino Fax server update for V4R4, you must complete the additional steps described here.
The Domino Directory for Domino 6 and Domino 7 uses a default frameset that will not show the Fax views when using Domino Fax with combined administration. You need to update the design of the Domino Directory. This update is not necessary if you are using separate administration.
- Use Domino Designer to open the Domino Directory.
- Expand the following views:
Shared Code -> Outlines in order to display
(AllViews).
- Create a blank outline entry with the Label
Fax. Specify
(None) as the Type.
- Create another new outline entry, indented under the Fax entry. This new entry should be of Type
Named Element - View. For the Value field, specify
Fax\Classes of Service. Alternatively, you can click on the folder next to the Value field and select this view from the list presented. Repeat this step for each of the following views:
- Fax\Cost Code Groups
- Fax\Devices
- Fax\Inbound Routing Profiles
- Fax\Least Cost Routing
- Fax\Servers
- Fax\Telephone Number Translations
- Save your updates and exit Domino Designer.
The Fax views should now be available when you open the Domino Directory.

Complete these steps so that your Notes 6 or 7 users will have access to the “Fax to” field and the “Fax Options” button. (You only need to update the Notes 6 or 7 mail template once; you do not need to complete these steps each time you install the most recent Domino Fax update.)
- Open and run the Setup database (setupfxd.nsf).
- If you ran the Setup database previously, you must run it again after installing Domino 6 or 7 and the Domino Fax update in order to add the Fax subforms to the Notes 6 or 7 mail template (mail6.ntf or mail7.ntf). You do not need to change any of the values but you must run the database again.
- If you are setting up a Domino Fax server for the first time, follow the instructions in the
Domino Fax Installation Guide
(PDF, 160KB) to run the Setup database.
- The following forms in the Notes 6 or 7 mail template have been changed by the Setup database:
Memo, Reply and Reply with History. You should resign these design elements. See the “Lotus Domino Administrator Help” for more information about signing templates and databases.
- Update the design of your Domino mail databases or wait until the next time the design task runs, normally overnight.
The following manual steps for updating the Notes 6 or 7 mail template should not be necessary. They are provided for reference purposes only and may be useful if a problem occurs when applying the update.
- Use the Domino Designer to open the Notes 6 or 7 mail template (mail6.ntf or mail7.ntf).
- Open the “Memo” form and click on the
at the top of the form. The default value will look like this:
REM {Obsolete –
uncomment this code if you still use this product};
REM {@If(@IsAvailable($HideMailHeader);"";
@ClientType="Notes";"$LotusFaxMemoSubform";"")};
""
- You must uncomment the
@If statement so that it looks like this:
@If(@IsAvailable($HideMailHeader);"";
@ClientType="Notes";"$LotusFaxMemoSubform";"")
- Repeat steps 2 and 3 for the “Reply” form and the “Reply With History” form.
- Save your changes to the Notes 6 mail template and update the design of your users’ mail databases.
