Lotus Domino for i5/OS

There are several different types of updates that can be delivered between major releases of Domino:

Maintenance Releases (MRs)
MRs are regularly scheduled updates to Domino feature releases and are denoted by the use of a third digit in the release number. For example, Domino 7.0.1 is a Maintenance Release for Domino 7.0.

Fix Packs (FPs)
Fixpacks are issued as needed to fix specific problems that are identified between scheduled Maintenance Releases (MRs) of Domino. When you download a Domino Fix Pack, you will find that the fix is packaged and installed on your system as an i5/OS PTF.
Note that Domino Fix Packs have previously been known by several different names: Critical Fixpacks, Maintenance Updates (MUs) and Quarterly Maintenance Updates (QMUs).

IBM periodically creates program temporary fixes (PTFs) to correct problems or potential problems found within a particular IBM licensed program. PTFs are designed to replace one or more objects in the licensed program software. PTFs are the standard mechanism for delivering fixes to System i.

Updates to Domino for i5/OS, such as Fix Packs are installed on your system as PTFs. Also, the Domino support team normally identifies system PTFs that should be installed on all i5/OS systems running Domino. For the current list, see Required System Fixes.

Cumulative PTF packages are the primary method of providing preventive maintenance for the System i family of systems. They are updated periodically and contain recommended PTFs for both the Operating System (i5/OS) and other IBM licensed programs. You can order a Cumulative PTF package electronically or by telephone. They are always delivered by mail on a CD-ROM.

CUMs are labeled according to the year, Julian date, and operating system version. For example, this label CUM C7161530 can be interpreted as follows:

A Group PTF is a collection of PTFs that are all related to a single function, such as Java or Database. This collection is identified by a single PTF number so that the entire collection is easy to manage. For example, the Java group PTF for V5R3 is SF99269. You can order and install the entire collection of PTFs that are important for Java on V5R3 by ordering and applying PTF SF99269. Like cumulative PTF packages, group PTFs are updated periodically as new fixes become available that affect the function.

Group PTFs can be ordered electronically just like individual PTFs; normally they are delivered by mail on CD-ROM.

IBM lists PTF information in Preventive Service Planning (PSP) documents. You can download these documents using Electronic Customer Support or from the Internet. To access PSP documents, visit the Support for System i Web site, select "Technical Databases" and then select "Preventive Service Planning (PSP)". Follow the links to the documents that interest you.

To determine the status of PTFs on your system:

1. From any i5/OS command line, use the Display PTF (DSPPTF) CL command and then press F4 (Prompt).
2. To view PTF status for a particular product, type the licensed program number and press Enter. For example, type 5722SS1 for Version 5 of the operating system.
   To view the status for all installed products, specify *ALL for both parameters and press Enter.
3. When the current status for installed PTFs is displayed, press Enter to display additional pages of status.

To determine the latest installed level of the Cumulative PTF package on a V5R3 system:

1. From any i5/OS command line, Use the Work PTF Group (WRKPTFGRP) CL command and then press Enter.
2. Locate the entry for SF99530, which represents the Cumulative PTF package for V5R3. The level of the Group PTF identifies the level of the cumulative PTF package.
   
   For example, if the level is 4178, your cumulative PTF package ID is C4178530 (530 is added to the end of the package ID to indicate Version 5 Release 3 Modification level 0). The level of the cumulative package ID indicates the release date of the package using the Julian calendar. In this example, the package was issued on the 178th day of 2004.

A superseded PTF is one that has never been installed on the system, but its status is displayed as superseded because the changes from this PTF have been included in a newer PTF that has been installed on the system.

If a PTF is temporarily applied when a superseding PTF is installed, the original PTF is automatically applied permanently and the newer PTF is temporarily applied.

The quickest method to order and receive PTFs is through the Internet at Fix Central.

Alternatively, you can order individual PTFs from your System i by running the following command from any i5/OS command line:

SNDPTFORD PTFID( nnnnnnn)

Where nnnnnnn is the number of the individual PTF you want to order. You can order up to 20 PTFs at one time.

When PTFs are delivered electronically via your service support communications line, they are placed in a save file in library QGPL. In most cases, the save file name is the PTF identifier prefixed with a Q. For example, the save file for PTF SF12345 is QSF12345.

The quickest method to order and receive PTFs is through the Internet at Fix Central. It offers a Customized Cumulative PTF Package function which tailors a Cumulative PTF Package to the exact needs of your system, ordering only the PTFs your system needs to update it to a package level.

Alternatively, you can order a cumulative PTF package electronically from your iSeries server:

1. Enter the following command, where VRM is the version, release, and modification level of the operating system for which you need the Cumulative PTF package:
   SNDPTFORD SF99 VRM
   For example, for V5R3M0, run this command: SNDPTFORD SF99530
2. Verify the shipping information on the "Verify Contact Information" display. Update the information if necessary and press Enter.
3. Select option 1 (Send service request now) on the "Select Reporting Option" display. This places the PTF order.

Cumulative PTF packages are always delivered by mail on CD-ROM.

A PTFs may have dependencies on other PTFs. There are two different types of dependencies, prerequisites and corequisites. The prerequisites and corequisites PTFs are sent along with the PTFs order to make sure you have everything you need to load and apply the PTF.

Visit the System i and i5/OS Information Center. Select your location, language and release level.
