System i Access for Windows V6R1
System i Access for Windows V6R1 offers an all-inclusive client solution for accessing and using resources from your Microsoft Windows desktop. It includes 5250 emulation, access to the i5/OS database through its Data Transfer and other data access providers, and has a variety of middleware for using and developing client applications to access i5/OS resources.
System i Access for Windows V6R1 offers these enhancements:
- .NET Data Provider supports:
- ADO.NET 2.0 base class model
- Distributed transactions using the System.Transactions namespace
- Multirow blocked inserts
- Running in 64-bit model
- Decimal float and datalink data types
- Improved control over sending and receiving LOB data in blocks
- SQL query storage limit
- New SQL special client information registers
- Enhanced support for optimistic updates using row change timestamp
- Integration with Visual Studio 2005 to enhance design-time experience when writing applications
- Ability to specify the IsolationLevel for autocommit
- Conversion to the Microsoft Installer Package (MSI) technology. MSI improves software deployment through a standard format for downloading applications and fixes to network users. MSI is a standard mechanism for administrators to distribute and manage System i Access for Windows on PCs in their network. For example, administrators can deploy Access for Windows through Active Directory and install software on multiple i5/OS systems from a central repository.
- New PC5250 path location to common folders to support Windows Vista® operating systems

- Disabling the minimize, restore, and close options of PC5250 sessions

- ODBC supports:
- SQL query storage limits
- ODBC application and QZDASOINIT system jobs association
- 128-byte cursor names
- Decimal floating point (DECFLOAT) data type
- Stored procedures compiled with different date and time formats
- Default values (extended Indicator support), enabling an application to specify that a column's default value be used to insert data, instead of passing data in the parameter itself
- OLE DB supports:
- Setting maximum storage on SQL queries.
- Using decimal floating point data.
- Handling errors from numeric data.
- Truncating trailing blanks from input data.
- Setting and passing client information to and from the database host (including client accounting, program IDs, user IDs, application names, and workstation names).
- Handling stored procedures compiled with different date and time formats.
- Default values (extended Indicator support), enabling an application to use the indicator variables associated with the host variables to pass special values designating DEFAULT and 'unassigned'. These new special values can be used in UPDATE and INSERT SQL statements, in both static and dynamic forms.

- Remote commands support sending and receiving messages in Unicode.
- Serviceability functions added to the tracing tool include:
- Trace per process ID
- Support trace file wrapping
- Component filtering
- Dynamic start/stop of trace at per-process level
