System i Access

This Technology Preview is provided for those customers who prefer to use the Windows Installer technology. This software is currently only available from this web site.

Important notes:

  This Technology Preview can be installed on:
  • Windows Vista Ultimate and Business Editions
  • Windows XP Professional Edition
  • Windows 2000
  • 32-bit version of Windows Server 2003
  
  The Technology Preview cannot be installed on:
  • Windows 95
  • Windows 98
  • Windows NT 4.0
  • 64-bit versions of Windows operating systems
  
  
• Language Available
  This Technology Preview is only available in English, national language version 2924. No other language versions are planned for the preview. Users who are upgrading to the Technology Preview version of iSeries Access for Windows from V5R3 or V5R2 can only upgrade from English, language version 2924.
• 
   
• The following components are not included with this installation image:
  iSeries Navigator, EZ-Setup, Toolbox for Java, and the Java Programmer’s Tools. These components are not planned to be included in any future service updates for the Technology Preview. If you are upgrading from V5R3 or V5R2 iSeries Access for Windows and had one or more of these features installed, they will be removed.

IBM plans to make the Windows Installer Technology support in iSeries Access for Windows generally available in the next release. Refer to the Product Preview statements.

Version 5.4.07 (containing service pack SI29771) released on January of 2008 will be the last supported service pack for this Technology Preview. The Technology Preview will be withdrawn in the next few months. Please notice that the end of service pack support applies only to the Windows Installer Technology Preview version of iSeries Access for Windows. Service packs for the official media of V5R4 iSeries Access for Windows will continue to be released normally.

Register and download the Technology Preview installation image. Download the most recent version, 5.4.07 (containing service pack SI29771), unless you are instructed to use version 5.4.06 (containing service pack SI27741).

Important notice: Version 5.4.07 (containing service pack SI29771) will be the last supported service pack for this Technology Preview.

Once the file has been downloaded, do the following to uncompress the installation image:

1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Open the folder that contains the file you just downloaded. Double click on that file.
3. Follow the prompts.

Now you can install iSeries Access for Windows.

Prior to install, refer to readme_install_info.txt in the installation image that you downloaded. The readme contains installation and support information, actions required, and restrictions.

When you are ready to install, do the following:

1. Open Windows Explorer.
2. Open the folder where you uncompressed the installation image.
3. Double click on setup.exe.
4. Follow the prompts.
