Operations Console configuration migration

With the installation of 6.1 service packs beginning with SI41053, the existing Operations Console configurations will no longer be visible to all users of a multi-user PC. After the service pack is installed, the Operations Console configurations will be migrated to the first Windows user that starts Operations Console. This means, only one user will now have visibility to the original Operations Console configurations. Other users can create new console connections to the same server. However, each user's connection requires a unique device id.
Note: In order to preserve the Operations Console configurations during an upgrade from 6.1 to 7.1, this migration must be done prior to the 7.1 upgrade by:

   1) Applying the 6.1 service pack SI41053 or later
   2) Complete the migration by Starting Operations Console

Problems downloading a Service Pack?

Try one of these:

  • Review the Software Knowledge Base Article:   Problems Downloading Files from the FTP Site, including Client Access Service Packs.
  • Order the PTF to install on your System i:
    • Use SNDPTFORD to order the PTF and install it on your IBM i. Since the service pack PTFs generally exceed the size limit to be sent electronically, you can receive the PTF on media by changing the "Delivery Method" (DELIVERY) parameter on SNDPTFORD to *ANY. (The parameter defaults to *LINKONLY.)
    • Use Fix Central. Fix Central for IBM i allows you to search, select, order, and download fixes to your IBM i system with a choice of delivery options. To learn about this service and the requirements, go to the IBM i Support: Fixes page and select Fix Central.

Required action before installing V6R1M0 service packs available after July 1, 2009

All future V6R1 IBM i Access for Windows service packs available after July 1, 2009 require that you install a Microsoft security update prior to installing the service pack. While we do not believe there is an existing security exposure to any current or previous service packs, IBM is following Microsoft's recommendation and will, therefore, require this security update to be applied before installing future service packs.

You may install this update any time prior to installing the next V6R1 service pack for IBM i Access for Windows. The update is compatible with existing versions of IBM i Access for Windows. Please make plans to have this update applied before installing the next service pack.

For more information about the security exposure, see:
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/MS09-035.mspx (link resides outside of ibm.com)

The Microsoft security update can be found at the following location:
(Note: There is a drop down box labeled "Change language." Select the appropriate language for your installation.)
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?familyid=766a6af7-ec73-40ff-b072-9112bab119c2 (link resides outside of ibm.com)

Download and install the correct vcredist_XXXX.exe file for your system. If you have a 64 bit system, in addition to installing the correct vcredist_XXXX.exe file for your 64 bit system, you will also need to install vcredist_x86.exe (32 bit version) since IBM i Access for Windows will run both 32 and 64 bit executables on a 64 bit PC.

After you have installed this Microsoft security update, you may proceed to install the next V6R1 service pack for IBM i Access for Windows at your convenience.
