1. Support of 64-bit hardware and Windows Server 2003
In V5R2M0 iSeries Access for Windows, the ODBC and OLE DB components have been ported to run natively on 64-bit Windows (on Intel Itanium hardware). Most other components will run in 32-bit mode on 64-bit hardware (print drivers cannot be installed and SSL support will not run with 64-bit applications). IBM supports the 64-bit Windows Server 2003 with V5R2 and later. Refer to Windows Operating Systems and iSeries Access for required service packs and support statements for Windows Server 2003.
2. CWBBACK and CWBREST: New Option Allows Restricted Users to Restore a Saved Configuration
Prior to V5R2M0, a restricted Windows user could not successfully restore an iSeries Access for Windows configuration that had been saved using cwbback. A new option, /u, has been added to cwbback to remove this restriction. The syntax for cwbback is now as follows:
Syntax
CWBBACK [filename] [/u]
Parameters
filename - configuration storage filename, may include drive letter and path
/u - unrestricted when a restore is performed later
Without using /u, some of the information that is saved comes from a location that restricted users may not have permission to write to. If a restricted user runs cwbrest to restore this information, it will fail. Use of /u causes cwbback to not save this information. Settings not saved when /u is specified are those related to service pack install. No new option is required when cwbrest is run -- just use /u when running cwbback, and cwbrest should then succeed when the resulting configuration storage file is restored.
3. ODBC Data Sources: Driver Entries Contain Both Old and New Names
When setting up data sources for ODBC through the ODBC Administrator program, there are two entries in the list of drivers that pertain to iSeries Access / Client Access. The entries are "Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)" and "iSeries Access ODBC Driver". Both entries are provided so that data sources created in earlier versions of Client Access can be used. These entries are identical in that they both point to the same ODBC driver.
Be aware that in a future release, the former name of "Client Access ODBC Driver (32-bit)" will be removed. If you use an application that uses a File DSN or DSN-less connection (one that specifies the DRIVER connection string keyword when connecting) you should consider changing your application to use the new name "iSeries Access ODBC Driver".
4. Special Instructions for Installing Some Language Versions of V5R2 iSeries Access for Windows Licensed Program on the iSeries Server
If you are installing one of the following national language versions of the V5R2M0 5722-XE1 licensed program on your iSeries server:
Spanish (2931), German MNCS (2939), Arabic (2954), Turkish (2956), Japanese (2962), Russian (2979), French Canadian (2981), Korean (2986), Portuguese MNCS (2996)
refer to Information APAR II13393 for special instructions.
5. National Language Characters in Simplified Chinese Version of EZ-Setup for iSeries
On the Simplified Chinese version of the EZ-Setup displays, the national language characters do not appear correctly because of the font being used. The work around for this problem is to open the display settings from the Windows control panel and change the Message Box font to be an appropriate font for Simplified Chinese.
