"Gateway Technical College is a member of the IBM i Scholars Program. We have IBM i Access for the Web and HATS LE installed at the College. Students use both products to access our IBM i for programming classes. They particularly like the Run SQL portion of IBM i Access for the Web. Given the choice of writing Query400 database queries or using the SQL Wizard, IBM i Access for the Web is a Winner! They love the ability to create PDF's and save them in their personal folder. I like it because it is easy for me to track their work.

I administer and have installed the software on our Model 800. It was easy to install both products on one WebSphere instance. Even on our small IBM i, the response time is great. I have ordered WebSphere V6 and will be installing and configuring it in the near future.

Thanks IBM."

"I read the article in the IBM i 400 Experts Journal (*). This article was very informative and inspired us here at Guelph Hydro to implement the product. We had the product up and running in a day and configured our security using the tools available with the product. I can confidently say that this product is definitely "cool," and we have already taken advantage of the powerful features of this product. This is a definite "got to have" product for any serious IBM i shop.

You can give your development team two thumbs up on this one. Thanks again!"

"I recently attended a number of IBM i Access for Web sessions at COMMON in San Antonio. I am really impressed with a product that enables a look and feel familiar to even the newest user in our company. I am especially interested in the 5250 screen conversion, since the green-screen interface has made some users question the value of these applications compared to newer GUI-presented apps.

I was also excited by the GUI-based spool file access and the ability to create PDF files to fax or print to PC printers - something that several of my users will really appreciate.

IBM i Access for Web is a great addition to the IBM i Access Family, and I am looking forward to implementation.

Congratulations and thanks to the to the Access team - you make my job easier out here!"

"I started using IBM i Access for Web a year ago and am very pleased with it, and I am appreciative of the improvements that keep coming.

The function of IBM i Access for Web that I use THE MOST is -- without a doubt -- the ability to create and email PDF attachments from standard spool files. Another very useful feature has been the SQL Wizard. Six months ago I didn't know the basics of SQL and now I am generating simple queries -- sometimes to a spreadsheet and sometimes just a list will do. I especially like the capability of authorizing "shortcuts" that allow users with normally restricted access to be able to request output resulting from SQL queries, since in our shop, few users have command line access and thus no access to data. I am looking forward to trying out the new dynamic query capabilities as well. A third area that is most helpful to me is the ability to provide access and support to remote users without needing to provide any software for installation on their PCs.

I've "tried it and like it"!"

Silvon Software, Inc.
"I was able to quickly create a VB.NET data access program to read data from an IBM i table. The performance seemed great. I was also impressed with the improved performance of many of the IBM i Navigator system functions. For example, it used to take minutes to display the tables in a relatively small library, now it takes only seconds. I am using VPN to access our IBM i over the Internet using a cable modem."

"The IBM i Access for Windows Programmer's Toolkit helped us create success.

We are a vendor that markets applications for document output management across the IBM i, Windows, and UNIX platforms. The main component of our application merges electronic form information with the spooled file contents. The resulting postscript is sent to the printer for output. In an effort to improve consistency and maintainability, we ported this component onto the IBM i platform in C++ and made some minor IBM i-specific changes. To further improve performance, we researched the idea of running part of the merge process on the integrated server.

With enthusiastic assistance from IBM, we not only installed the server and completed the research within a week, but already had a Windows based version of the merged component running. We simply had to replace the existing APIs with their IBM i Access for Windows counterparts and insert some access security values. The process running on the integrated server was initiated from an IBM i job and was able to maintain all necessary access to the IFS, data queues and message queues. With our merge component running on the integrated server processor, throughput is up to 25 times faster!

The speed and ease with which we were able to adapt our application to run on the integrated Windows platform, using the provided Toolkit, is a glowing tribute to the IBM i Access team. Not only is this process relatively painless, it also presents a viable alternative for vendor applications to take advantage of the additional processing capacity of the integrated server."

Customer Comment on IBM i Access for Linux

Gainey Transportation Services
"Thanks IBM!!!

Great job folks! For several months I had been looking for a software package to handle IBM's 5250 protocol for Linux. While there are a few projects out there, none of them could fit our needs. IBM's developers have done a great job in setting up a very smooth running version of Client Access for Linux. I was even more excited to see that the newest version would work with our LTSP system (Linux Terminal Server Project). We are now serving up 40+ desktops with full IBM i access from one Linux server with plans to expand the user base. Again, Great Job!"
