Linux on System i and System p platforms
With the announcement of POWER5-based systems in 2004 and the availability of Linux on POWER distributions for Red Hat and Novell, customers, business partners and independent software vendors can deploy applications running on Linux on either System i or System p platforms.
Since System i and System p offerings are built with the same POWER5 and POWER5+ processors and server technology, Linux applications that run on System p can run on Systems i offerings unchanged. While most of the I/O options are the same between the System i and System p offerings, support is dependent upon specific I/O availability as required by the application.
