Compatibility

AIX on System i and System p
With the announcement of POWER5-based systems and the availability of AIX 5L v5.2ML4 and AIX 5L v5.3, customers, business partners and independent software vendors can deploy applications running on AIX 5L v5.2, AIX 5L v5.3 or AIX Version 6.1 on either System i or System p platforms.

Since System i and System p platforms are built with the same POWER5 and POWER6 processors and server technology, AIX applications that run on System p can run on System i unchanged. While most of the I/O options are the same between the System i and System p, support is dependent upon specific I/O availability. You should verify that adapters running in AIX partitions on System i servers are utilizing I/O Adapters supported by AIX.
