Power System servers are regarded as one of the industry's most scalable and highly integrated servers. IBM i automates a majority of the storage management tasks with state of the art disk storage subsystems, self-managing and easy to use interfaces, and sophisticated software automation such as:
Power Systems IBM i servers are renowned for high volume transaction workloads that are typical in the commercial computing environment. This scalability and performance can be provided by either the self-optimizing integrated storage management architecture of IBM i or through SAN attached storage.
Enhancements for 4Q 2009:
| |
IBM i support of PCIe integrated SAS storage adapters |
| |
IBM i support of DS5020 Disk Storage through VIOS |
| |
IBM i supports direct attachment of DS5100/5300 (no VIOS required) |
| |
IBM i support of DS8700 |
With the introduction of POWER6 and IBM i 6.1, IBM i moves into a new generation of Storage Area Network (SAN) attach. This release increases the attach density by a factor of 8X (Logical Unit Numbers/Slot). The new fibre channel adapters also include enhancements to improve SAN performance giving it the ability to perform on par with the high performing integrated storage offering in certain configurations.
IBM i supports the following SAN attach platforms:
