IT Simplification is a System i solution to manage multiple platforms. This class will demonstrate the power and flexibility of the System i in meeting the demands for a simpler solution. The System i is capable of running i5/OS, LINUX, AIX, and WINDOWS server applications. In addition, the System i architecture offers unique characteristics that simplify the implementation of complex Portal and Workplace collaboration environments, enabling the consolidation of distributed topologies into one or two nodes. This course will explain how i5/OS vertical scalability and the ability to run mixed workloads can address your simplification needs. This class will include lectures and exercises that will illustrate the methods used to configure and implement IT Simplification along with the tools to help manage these environments.

Linux enables a new stream of online business applications for the System i platform that complement its strength as an integrated core business solution. Learn how to plan, implement and provide basic management for a Linux partition on a System i. Learn about all aspects of Linux on System i in this hands-on course. Load multiple distributions of Linux in all the different environments possible on the System i system: hosted, non-hosted and a mixture of both types of environments.

Learn basic and advanced concepts of logical partitioning (LPAR) for the System i IBM POWER5TM processor-based servers. Begin with an overview of LPAR on System i, followed with very detailed information on configuration planning and implementation using hands-on exercises to create and implement LPARs. Also, learn about partial processors, dynamic allocation and reallocation of memory, processors, interactive commercial processing workloads (CPWs), buses and input/output processors (IOP), graphical user interface (GUI), virtual local area network (VLAN), and LPAR Validation Tool (LVT). Use IBM eServer i5 equipment and emphasize the new hardware, including the use of the Hardware Management Console (HMC).

Develop the skills you need to install, configure, and maintain either of the Hypertext Transfer Protocol (HTTP) servers (Apache or original) that are components of the OS/400 V5 operating system. Reinforce what you learn through numerous exercises.
