Ordering channels for iSCSI

Multiple channels are used when ordering the hardware and the associated software for IBM® BladeCenter® and System x™ servers that are attached to IBM i via iSCSI host bus adapters (iSCSI HBAs).

Power Systems channel
 
  • Power server. See Power server support for iSCSI HBAs.
  • IBM i disk drives for Windows®, VMware® ESX or Linux® storage.
  • iSCSI host bus adapter (iSCSI HBA) for the Power server.
  • IBM i 6.1 (5761-SS1) or i 5.4 (5722-SS1), including IBM i option 29 – Integrated Server Support.
  • For i 6.1: IBM i5/OS Extended Integrated Server Support (no charge LPP 5761-LSV) is needed if installing VMware ESX or Linux servers.
  • For i 5.4: IBM i5/OS Integration for Linux on xSeries (no charge LPP 5722-LSV) is needed if installing VMware ESX or Linux servers.

  • Gigabit Ethernet switch. See Ethernet switches for iSCSI.
  • Ethernet cables -- copper or fiber, as required by your iSCSI network.
  • Server applications.
 
Microsoft® channel
 
 
VMware channel
 
  • Any VMware ESX version listed for your blade or System x server model in the Operating systems tested on iSCSI attached servers section of the BladeCenter and System x models supported with iSCSI page.
  • Virtual Infrastructure 3, Standard or Enterprise editions
