Support for complementary applications:
Some software providers are delivering applications that leverage multiple server platforms. With these complementary applications, both IBM i and Windows®, VMware® ESX or Linux® server environments are required to support the total solution. BladeCenter® and System x™ models attached via iSCSI host bus adapters, System x models attached via Integrated xSeries Adapters and the Integrated xSeries Server are ideal ways to meet this requirement, by offering an integrated IBM® Systems™ solution.
For an example of how complementary applications can benefit from the integrated System i™ /System x environment, see white paper IBM eServer™ iSeries Advantage: Benefits of Integrated xSeries Adapter for J.D. Edwards OneWorld / ERP 8.0 (131 KB).
Managed delivery of Windows applications:
Support for Citrix® MetaFrame® to deliver Windows personal productivity
applications to the desktop. By serving Windows desktop applications on the
server instead of installing them on every desktop, management can be
dramatically simplified. Application software changes need be done only
once, at the server level, and they are automatically and transparently rolled
out to every desktop in the organization.
Operating systems
IBM has tested selected operating system products with integrated servers. See the following pages for details:
Note: IBM and non-IBM application software that is not "Generally Available" or
has not "Officially Shipped" is not supported for use with integrated servers.
Note: There are some special considerations for using any of the
integrated servers as a firewall.
See Firewall considerations for Windows servers.
There are also some special considerations when using the Windows Firewall function that
was introduced with Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1.
See Windows Server 2003 Service Pack 1 for more information.
