Narration copy for short preview video of the Virtual Green Data Center

In 2007 IBM launched a one billion dollar initiative to address the critical issue of energy efficiency in IT environments. As part of this, IBM is using virtual world technology to help customers learn about green data centers.

IBM's Virtual Green Data Center is a 3D environment on IBM's Virtual Business Center in Second Life. Here, individuals as well as groups, normally restricted from entering a real world IBM data center, can interact with exhibits and explore data center technologies at their own pace. This experience is available from any location, anytime of the day and requires only a computer and Internet connection. Live sales avatars are available twenty four hours a day, five days a week to answer questions and if needed, connect visitors with real world IBM expertise and resources.

The exhibit includes the IBM x86, Unix and mainframe products, as well as IBM's impressive array of energy efficient solutions, services, and technologies. This combination of products and services help companies diagnose, measure and manage, cool, virtualize, and build their own green data centers.

The exhibit offers visitors a rich, informative and interactive experience, whether peering under the floor at cabling, examining a 3D model of optimal air flow, or managing a simulated data center crisis from the virtual command center.

Visit the exhibit today in Second Life.
