Description

This interactive course will help you build the skills you need to perform basic modifications to the SureVision GUI screens for IBM point-of-sale applications. You will learn the purpose and architecture of SureVision, how to install it, how to set up the SureVision simulator, how to use XML and properties files to modify the appearance and action of the application screens, and much more. The course includes many simulations to let you experience the tasks required during the course hands-on exercises before actually performing them on your development system.

Objectives

Upon completion of this course, you should be able to:

  • Install the SureVision product on 4680-4690 Supermarket Application (SA), 4680-4690 General Sales Application (GSA), 4680 Chain Drug Sales Application (CDSA), or SurePOS™ Application Client/Server Environment (ACE), as appropriate for your environment
  • Set up the SureVision Simulator on a Windows® development system
  • Use XML and xmlspy to create and modify SureVision screens
  • Use properties files to make screen characteristics easy to translate or change
  • Test screen changes using the SureVision Simulator
  • Implement changes verified through the simulator on the 4690 POS platform
  • Modify both the Operator and Customer GUIs for a dual-display environment
  • Describe where to find information about extending the function of SureVision

Prerequisites

Before you take this course, you should:

  • Be familiar with software and hardware installation and configuration in the 4690 Operating System environment
  • Have at least a working knowledge of the sales application you will be using with SureVision (SA, GSA, CDSA, ACE)
  • Familiarity with XML will be helpful, but is not required.

To receive full benefit from this course, it is recommended that you have
a 4690 POS system and a Windows development system available to
perform the installation and exercises. See Module 1 of the course for a full list of recommended hardware and software.
