  IBM continues TOP500 lead

According to the June 2009 TOP500 (link resides outside of ibm.com) List of Supercomputers, IBM continues to lead the list for the tenth consecutive time with the IBM computer built for the "Roadrunner" project at the US Department of Energy Los Alamos National Lab retaining the #1 position with 1.1 petaflops. IBM also leads the Top 10 with a total of 5 of the systems including the #3 system, the expanded IBM Blue Gene/P system at Forchungzentrum Juelich, with over 825 teraflops which is the most powerful supercomputer in Europe. The IBM Blue Gene/L at the US Department of Energy Lawrence Livermore National Lab, long time previous leader, is now the #5 system. The #7 IBM Blue Gene/P at Argonne National Lab is joined with a new Blue Gene/P system called "Dawn" at Lawrence Livermore National Lab at #9 which is the initial delivery for the IBM's future 20 petaflop Sequoia system. more

  Extreme Computational Power

Power that enables trillions of calculations to occur within a second, and achieves the performance and productivity needed to run increasingly complex scientific and commercial applications. All of IBM Deep Computing solutions leverage IBM's long-standing leadership in supercomputing.
A Proven Leader
The TOP500 project was started in 1993 to provide a reliable basis for tracking and detecting trends in high-performance computing. Twice a year, a list of the sites operating the 500 most powerful computer systems, based on Linpack (link resides outside of ibm.com) performance, is assembled and released. The most recent list (June 2009) demonstrates IBM's leadership.
  • Leads the list with world's #1 supercomputer (QS22/LS21 system for US Department of Energy/NNSA/LANL (1.026 Petaflops)
  • Leads installed aggregate throughput for the 20th time in row with over 8,903 out of 22,608 Teraflops (39.4%)!
  • Most systems in TOP10 by any single vendor (5)!
  • Most systems in TOP20 with 7 systems (34%)!
  • Most systems in TOP100 systems with 35 (35%)!
  • 19 of 20 most power efficient systems and 73 out of 104 most power efficient.
