IBM: Supercomputing leader

IBM continues TOP500 lead

According to the June 2010 TOP500 (link resides outside of ibm.com) List of Supercomputers, IBM continues to lead the list for the twenty-second consecutive time with the most installed aggregate performance. IBM has regained the lead with the most entries on the list with 196. IBM also leads the Top 10 for the twelfth consecutive time with a total of four of the systems including, the #3 system, the first system to sustain a petaflop of performance, which IBM built for the "Roadrunner" project at the Los Alamos National Lab. Other systems in Top 10 were the #5 IBM Blue Gene/P system at Forschungszentrum Juelich, with over 825 teraflops which is the most powerful supercomputer in Europe. The IBM Blue Gene/L at the US Department of Energy Lawrence Livermore National Lab, long time previous leader, is now the #8 system, and the #9 IBM Blue Gene/P at Argonne National Lab.

IBM offers:

Extreme Computational Power

Power that enables trillions of calculations to occur within a second, and achieves the performance and productivity needed to run increasingly complex scientific and commercial applications. All of IBM Deep Computing solutions leverage IBM's long-standing leadership in supercomputing.

A Proven Leader

The TOP500 project was started in 1993 to provide a reliable basis for tracking and detecting trends in high-performance computing. Twice a year, a list of the sites operating the 500 most powerful computer systems, based on Linpack (link resides outside of ibm.com) performance, is assembled and released. The most recent list (June 2010) demonstrates IBM's leadership.

Top500 supercomputer systems. November 2009 TOP100, IBM is clear leader with 33%. IBM, 33; Dell, 3; HP, 8; Cray, 14; SGI, 12; Other, 30. November 2009 Aggregate Performance, IBM: 9,742 of 27,697 TF (34.7%). IBM 34.7%; HP 22.7%; SGI 6.6%; Cray 15.9%; Sun 5.4%; Dell 2.2%; NEC 0.6%; Other 11.9%.;
