IBM® Computing on Demand

Overview Infrastructure Offerings Partners
Systems   |   Operating systems    |    Systems management

Physical systems are hosted and managed by IBM. Customers purchase an annual membership to the CoD center which includes a dedicated management server footprint and enables fast, ready access to additional capacity on an as needed, as available basis. Members obtain root access to the on demand systems purchased for the terms of the supplemental contract allowing members to install required software and manage their CoD environment similar to the management of in-house capacity.

Dynamic Scheduling and Provisioning - Computing on Demand users will soon be able to take advantage of a new web portal graphical user interface to schedule computing resources for specified timeframes. Automation will help ensure authorized resources are dynamically provisioned into a secure virtual LAN for the client to access at the committed start time, significantly streamlining the on demand process.

A sample of system and storage management capabilities include Extreme Cluster Administration Toolkit (xCAT) on the Cluster 1350, CSM and Parallel Systems Support Programs (PSSP) on the Cluster 1600, and IBM General Parallel File System (GPFS) to help provide fast I/O on both platforms. IBM provides access to compilers and libraries for IBM's UNIX systems, including the AIX 5L compiler suite, the Engineering Scientific Subroutine Library (ESSL), and a parallel version of ESSL (PESSL) for computational efficiency. IBM LoadLeveler® provides sophisticated job scheduling. Please refer to the Value Added Services section for more options.
