Each Computing on Demand center offers capacity on a variety of systems ranging from clusters of System p, System x, BladeCenter servers to a dedicated Blue Gene®/P system. You can choose the hardware and operating system you need to support your application. At your request, IBM will load the following Operating systems:
- Linux™
- Microsoft® Windows®
- IBM AIX®
note: The customer is responsible for all third-party software licensing agreements.
AIX
AIX 5L is IBM's premier platform for UNIX® applications, and is optimized for POWER hardware. AIX 5L is an award winning operating system, delivering superior scalability, reliability, and manageability.
But scalability goes far beyond simply running on larger systems or faster processors. True scalability requires a comprehensive design that's easily adaptable to changing business needs, permitting you to harness increased processing power with a minimum of disruption. And AIX 5L is tuned and balanced to meet the increasing complexity of Internet activity from network traffic to security to requests for files.
LINUX
IBM supports Linux as a key platform for computing in the 21st century. Linux is supported on the processors offered in the IBM CoD center including the IBM System p family of products.
Microsoft Windows HPC Server 2008® (HPCS)
Windows HPC Server 2008 combines the power of the Windows Server platform with rich, out-of-the-box functionality to help improve the productivity and reduce the complexity of your HPC environment. HPCS can efficiently scale to thousands of processing cores and provides a comprehensive set of deployment, administration, and monitoring tools that are easy to deploy, manage, and integrate with your existing infrastructure. Users can also submit and monitor jobs from within a wide-range of familiar applications without having to learn new or complex user interfaces.
Microsoft Windows Compute Cluster Server (CCS) 2003
Windows® Compute Cluster Server 2003 includes prescriptive setup procedures, a complete suite of management tools, and an integrated Job Scheduler. CCS is integrated with Active Directory and uses Microsoft Management Console and Microsoft Operations Manager along with tools like Visual Studio 2005 which supports parallel job development and debugging.
