IBM BladeCenter®
HC10 together with the IBM CP20 Workstation Connection Device:
- Helps manage risk by allowing for increased security and privacy by locating data in the data center rather than at the user’s desk
- Helps innovate for business advantage with flexible access to workstation applications which can help enhance productivity
- Helps you go green and save by dramatically reducing power, cooling, noise and clutter compared to workstations
- Helps manage complexity by facilitating centralized management and service, which can reduce costs
- Helps manage growth by providing a more resilient environment which can increase reliability and availability
Full workstation feature under flexible server based environment
The IBM CP20 Workstation Connection Device, placed on or near the user’s desk, connects to the
HC10 workstation blade via Ethernet and provides ports for monitors, keyboard, mouse and other peripherals (keyboard, mouse, monitor and line cord sold separately). It has no high-level operating system, disks or persistent storage. About the size of a book, the CP20 is virtually silent with no moving parts and consumes only 25 watts (nominal) of power. All of these features help contribute to a cooler, quieter, less cluttered workspace. The CP20 provides these connections:
- Two DVI-I video connections for monitors
- Four USB connections for keyboard, mouse and virtually any other USB device using standard Windows® device drivers
- High-definition audio, headphone and microphone
- Ethernet for connection to the
HC10
Secured networking environment
Graphics and USB data, compressed and encrypted to help provide security, are transferred between the HC10 and CP20 via a standard Ethernet network. IBM recommends use of a corporate intranet rather than public WAN for performance reasons. The CP20 and BladeCenter
HC10 provide a SOAP interface for use by management software. Third-party software can provide a connection management feature using this interface, and IBM anticipates providing a connection management solution in the future.¹ Contact your IBM representative for more information.

IBM offers a number of value-added features, including an LED to indicate the power status of the remotely connected
HC10 workstation blade and a remote power button to turn the connected HC10 on or off. These features will allow the CP20 and connected HC10 to be operated much like a local system.
