Scales compute farm performance without adding complexity
FlexCache volumes can be deployed in read-intensive compute farm environments to help scale overall performance. By distributing the file access loads from a single filer to several IBM® System Storage™ N series filers, one for each group of compute clients, the overall system performance can increase without adding management complexity. This "compute farm scaling" deployment can help provide the increased throughput needed by compute clients while avoiding additional data management burden. Frequently accessed data sets are automatically replicated from the source filer to the target filer. Data can be served to clients while avoiding performance bottlenecks.
Helps reduce complex replication infrastructure
FlexCache has the ability to distribute files to remote locations without the need for continuous, hands-on management. Filers deployed in remote offices can automatically replicate, store and serve the files or file portions that are requested by remote users, avoiding the need for replication software or scripts. In addition, the same filers can be used to store data created and accessed locally.
Users do not need to wait for the next replication window to transfer changes from their remote locations back to the central filer. FlexCache can automatically manage the consistency between its locally stored files and the central filer, helping to simplify an organisation's file distribution processes and reduce overall data management and WAN bandwidth costs.
