Abstract: In general during recovery process logs will apply in forward direction(redo)from recent image copy to recover point. From DB2 V10, there is a backout option in LOAD and RECOVERY utility. In backout recovery process, logs will apply in reverse direction from current point to recovery point. Since the recovery is based on DB2 Logs, this option does not require any image copies. This paper will give a clear idea about how BACKOUT option could be used in RECOVER utility. This paper can be an useful reference to anyone who writes JCLs for these utilities. The concept which has been explained in this paper is applicable from DB2 V11 in LOAD and from DB2 V10 in RECOVER utility. This particular option is available in LOAD utility of DB2 V10 with an APAR. For this, System Programmers will have to do an update of the system with this APAR.
