Abstract: This solution guide covers IBM Storwize family products and IBM System Storage SAN Volume Controller (SVC) storage management with Microsoft System Center 2012 SP1 Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM). The combination provides powerful integrated remote storage management including discovery, tier classification, allocation, provisioning and snapshots. Additionally, the Storage Management Initiative Specification (SMI-S) provider enables SCVMM storage area network (SAN) based virtual machine provisioning for faster deployment without impacting network resources. These capabilities are all included in the SMI-S provider which is built into the Storwize system software, and relies on the underlying Common Information Model (CIM) and SMI-S storage management API standards.
