Abstract: This paper examines the performance of Microsoft® Windows Server® 2012 Hyper-V™ live migration over 1 Gigabit Ethernet (1GbE), Teamed 1GbE ports, and 10 Gigabit Ethernet (10GbE) networks for virtual machines (VMs) running in a Microsoft Windows Server 2012 environment.

The test results show that:
• Live migration runs at near line speed on both 1GbE and 10GbE.
• Using the new NIC teaming feature in Windows Server 2012, with bandwidth aggregation, teaming 1GbE ports can produce near line speed for live migrating VMs using multiple streams with Link Aggregation Control Protocol (LACP).
