Abstract: The purpose of this document is to provide storage and system architects as well as database administrators with configuration and best practice guidelines for the IBM XIV Storage System in a Microsoft SQL 2008 R2 environment. SQL Server database administration and optimization tips are customized for XIV storage use, thereby maximizing the use of hardware and personnel resources resulting in reduced costs. Windows 2008 R2 is the host operating system and some of the recommendations are Windows specific.
