Abstract: Reducing and keeping administrative costs down is a challenge for most if not all organizations. One common source of high administrative costs is user and password administration. Forgotten passwords and locked user IDs not only result in lost productivity, but also a high volume of calls to the help desk. One strategy for reducing user ID and password administrative costs is single sign-on (SSO). By reducing the number of passwords a user must remember without sacrificing security, is one way that SSO can reduce administrative costs. This paper explores the possibility of expanding SSO from an SAP NetWeaver WebAS Java environment, running on the IBM i5/OS operating system, to include other elements of the enterprise including a Microsoft Windows network and other i5/OS systems.
