Abstract: The attached spreadsheet provides a simple methodology to determine the quantity of Power Systems fibre channel adapters needed to support a workload based on IOPS or MB/s.

The primary purpose of this spreadsheet is to determine the minimum quantity of adapters needed to support a workload based on the combination of MB/s and IOPS for either a single LPAR, single disk pool, or multiple LPARs utilizing VIOS virtualization (either VSCSI or NPIV). It will also inform as to the maximum quantity of IBM i LUNs in a single LPAR that can be supported for NPIV or native attach.
