Abstract: The IBM ATS Server Consolidation Monitor (ATS SCON Monitor) can be used to drive Server Consolidation studies. It gathers customer system architecture and performance data from Windows computers and UNIX/Linux hosts.

The IBM ATS Server Consolidation Monitor (ATS SCON Monitor) is intended as a data collection and consolidation utility for customers who are considering consolidating their systems.
This tool is a 64-bit Microsoft Windows application that runs on Windows .NET Framework version 4. It is designed to collect and report system architecture and performance data from a user specified list of Windows computers and UNIX/Linux hosts.

The ATS SCON Monitor is run on a dedicated Windows PC for a period of time (recommended 1 to 5 business days) capturing peak workload performance data. When the data collection is complete the data is sent to IBM's Techline for report generation (eSizings@us.ibm.com)
  • For Windows computers, the Microsoft Windows Management Infrastructure (WMI) provides computer information and performance data.
  • For UNIX/Linux hosts, the open-source Ganglia agent provides host information and performance data. Additionally, an NMON agent collection could also be run during this peak period of time. The ATS SCON Monitor will import the NMON agent collected data files. Please see the link at the bottom of this page for UNIX/Linux hosts.

System information and performance resource consumption information are reported in common units of measure (e.g., CPU capacity) in stacked graphical and tabular format allowing customers to make practical, informed, decisions about consolidating workloads based on measured workloads.

Following are not provided by this utility:
  • System specific architecture solutions
  • Pricing
  • Total cost of ownership
  • Energy consumption, etc.,

It is recommended that the user of the ATS SCON Monitor get in touch with the IBM Techline TCO Center of Excellence for further information on downstream financial analysis and consolidation support.

Maximum Number of Target Servers:
If you plan to run the ATS SCON Monitor against more than 250 target servers, please contact the ATSMON development team before proceeding (eSizings@us.ibm.com)
