Abstract: This is the Getting Started page for those interested in using IBM's Processor Capacity Reference (zPCR) to capacity plan for IBM Z and LinuxONE processors. It includes links for accessing related educational materials and downloading the tool itself. |
If the tabs of this notebook don't work for you, try this version of the document.
Note: If your currently installed zPCR version is older than C9.0, it MUST be uninstalled prior to installing zPCR C9.3 (package includes Java). This is necessary to facilitate conversion to the new IBM Java v8 64-bit runtime environment that is required for zPCR.

This section is used to document Special Notices and FAQs regarding the operation of zPCR.

Use of Capacity Estimates from zPCR
The information contained in the zPCR tool and documentation has not been submitted to any formal IBM test and is distributed on an "as is" basis without any warranty either expressed or implied. The use of this information or the implementation of any of these techniques is a customer responsibility and depends on the customer’s ability to evaluate and integrate them into the customer’s operational environment. While each item may have been reviewed by IBM for accuracy in a specific situation, there is no guarantee the same or similar results will be obtained elsewhere. Customers attempting to adapt these techniques to their own environments do so at their own risk.
Performance data contained in this document was determined in a controlled environment; therefore the results which may be obtained in other operating environments may vary significantly. No commitment as to your ability to obtain comparable results is any way intended or made by this release of information.
zPCR estimates have a degree of error of +/- 5%. Customers using zPCR information are solely responsible for building capacity plans using zPCR results which accommodate the degree of error inherent in the tool.

How are the IBM z15 models identified?
How are the IBM z14 models identified?
How are the IBM z13 models identified?
How are the IBM zEnterprise EC12 models identified?
How are the IBM zEnterprise 196 models identified?
How are the IBM System z10 EC models identified?
The IBM System z10 EC has 5 models. The models support different number of processor units (PU) which are configurable as General Purpose CPs, zAAPs, zIIPs, IFLs, ICF's, or optional SAPs.
System z10 EC Models E12 - Supports 1 to 12 Configurable PUs
E26 - Supports 1 to 26 Configurable PUs
E40 - Supports 1 to 40 Configurable PUs
E56 - Supports 1 to 56 Configurable PUs
E64 - Supports 1 to 64 Configurable PUs
In addition, for General Purpose CPs, there are 4 engine speeds, listed below in increasing speed sequence. All zAAPs, zIIPs, IFLs, and ICFs are full speed CPs.
400 Limit of 12 General Purpose CPs
500 Limit of 12 General Purpose CPs
600 Limit of 12 General Purpose CPs
700 No limit for General Purpose CPs

How are the IBM zSeries 990 models identified?
How often will I need to register my use of zPCR?
Registration is required to begin using zPCR. Subsequent registration for zPCR will only be required on a version change. This is expected to happen very infrequently. New releases or modification levels of zPCR will be made available on a regular basis but these updates will not require the user to register again.
What versions of Windows will support zPCR?
When must I reinstall the IBM Java runtime environment?
