|Abstract: This is the Getting Started page for those interested in using IBM's Processor Capacity Reference (zPCR) to capacity plan for IBM Z and LinuxONE processors. It includes links for accessing related educational materials and downloading the tool itself.|
|If the tabs of this notebook don't work for you, try this version of the document.
Note: If your currently installed zPCR version is older than C9.0, it MUST be uninstalled prior to installing zPCR C9.2d (package includes Java). This is necessary to facilitate conversion to the new IBM Java v8 64-bit runtime environment that is required for zPCR.
To review the zPCR C9.2d NEWS file, click on What's New below.

Use of Capacity Estimates from zPCR
Registration is required to use zPCR. The primary purpose for registration is to have an email contact in case important information must be distributed concerning the use of zPCR. A simple form is presented at zPCR initiation, requesting the necessary information.
If internet attached, and your installation does not block IP address and/or port used, your information is transmitted and a response should be immediate. If unable to internet connect, an email option to complete registration is provided.
zPCR can be used up to 3 times without completing the registration process.
Subsequent registration for zPCR will only be required on a version change, which is expected to happen very infrequently. New releases or modification levels of zPCR will be made available on a regular basis but these updates will not require the user to register again.
Frequently Asked Questions
How are the IBM z14 models identified?
How are the IBM z13 models identified?
The IBM z13 has 5 models. The models support different numbers of processor units (PU) which are configurable as General Purpose CPs, zIIPs, IFLs, ICF's, or optional SAPs.
z13 Models N30 - Supports 1 to 30 Configurable PUs
N63 - Supports 1 to 63 Configurable PUs
N96 - Supports 1 to 96 Configurable PUs
NC9 - Supports 1 to 129 Configurable PUs
NE1 - Supports 1 to 141 Configurable PUs
In addition, for General Purpose CPs, there are 4 engine speeds, listed below in increasing speed sequence. All zIIPs, IFLs, and ICFs are full speed CPs.
400 Limit of 30 General Purpose CPs
500 Limit of 30 General Purpose CPs
600 Limit of 30 General Purpose CPs
700 No limit for General Purpose CPs
How are the IBM zEnterprise EC12 models identified?
How are the IBM zEnterprise 196 models identified?
How are the IBM System z10 EC models identified?
How are the IBM System z9 EC models identified?
How are the IBM zSeries 990 models identified?
How often will I need to register my use of zPCR?
What versions of Windows will support zPCR?
When must I reinstall the IBM Java runtime environment?
Periodically, the IBM Java runtime environment supporting zPCR will be updated to newer releases. When a new release is required, you must download and install the zPCR including IBM Java Runtime package, which will replace the older Java.
