FAQ: When running AIX 5.2 on a System p5 model 520 or 550, can internal disks support multiple partitions?

Answer to this FAQ:

Yes. Internal disks can be used to support a maximum of two partitions in an AIX 5.2 environment provided the system is configured appropriately. With AIX 5.2, physical devices cannot be shared between LPARs, therefore each set of boot drives must be connected to separate SCSI controllers. To accomplish this, the Ultra320 SCSI 4-Pack for Disk Mirroring along with a SCSI320 or SCSI320 RAID adapter must be configured.
