| FAQ: What ISV and IBM FICON Switch or Director products are supported when a 3494 VTS or PtP VTS is connected to a z/OS system via cascading? |
Answer to this FAQ:
The table below is the matrix of Ficon switches supported with the standalone VTS and the PtP VTS.
- Both host to VTS or VTC and VTC to VTS are supported
- 1 level of cascading (2 switches) is supported
- No intermix of vendors
- Can mix models within vendors. (See vendor web pages for specific combinations supported.)
- Maximum distance supported with switches is 100km (62 miles) for all vendors/models
- Contact switch vendors to determine which switches are appropriate for use with channel extenders
Note on VTS code level naming conventions.
All code names are 2.xx.xxx.xx. The important numbers are the next to last set of 3 digits. Those digits indicate the release level and fix level. So using R7.2 as an example, GA level was 2.30.720.40 .
- The 720 indicates this is the 7.2 release and 0 means it was the base GA level.
- If a fix level is required for R7.2, the 720 would be incremented to 721 to indicate it is now R7.2+1. So the code level would be 2.30,721.xx.
So in the tables below, if it specifies "or a higher fix level" that means (using the R7.2 example) R7.2+1, R7.2+4, R7.2+xx would all be supported. So any release with 2.30.72x.xx would be supported. However, any R7.3, R7.4, etc. release or a release with 730, 740, etc. in the release number would not be supported.
