Correction: HACMP Information in TSM Performance Tuning Guide

July 15, 2005

The following incorrect information regarding use of IBM* High Availability Cluster MultiProcessing (HACMP*) with Tivoli* Storage Manager (TSM) appears in the IBM Tivoli Storage Manager Performance Tuning Guide (SC32-9101-02, Seventh Edition, December 2004):

NOTE: Do not use raw volumes for HACMP implementations that include the TSM server. During an HACMP failover event, the takeover system can potentially access raw volumes before the failing system has completely released them. If you choose not to use raw logical volumes, direct I/O should always be used for jfs2 file systems.

This statement is incorrect, HACMP can handle both raw volumes and jfs/jfs2 logical volumes correctly; it will not permit the backup system to access raw volumes before the failing system has released them.

IBM regrets any confusion or inconvenience this error may have caused and will correct it in the next release of the manual.
