Abstract: Ever thought about building a WebSphere cell with nodes running on different operating systems? It can be done. With WebSphere for z/OS Version 6, the ability to build what we call a "Heterogeneous Cell" (a cell with nodes on different operating systems) is possible. The basic stuff -- construction of nodes, federating the nodes -- is essentially the same. Things get interesting when unique names are being planned out. Things get even more interesting when "global security" is turned on. This document covers the essential issues and then documents an actual "heterogeneous cell" built at the Washington Systems Center.
