Real results

Rocket Software, Inc. wanted to increase efficiency and improve time to market for its IBM System z operating system-based software products. The Metal C feature of the IBM z/OS XL C/C++ compiler helps enable programmers to write code in the C syntax while taking advantage of advanced optimization technology in the z/OS XL C/C++ compiler. The IBM z/OS XL C/C++ compiler’s Metal C feature cuts development time by 50 percent to 66 percent and helping enable the company to capitalize on C programming skills.

The CICS development team recognized that its product development cycle could benefit from switching from its existing waterfall development processes to agile development methods. The team used IBM Rational Team Concert™ and IBM Rational® Developer for System z® software to create a highly configurable, end-to-end integrated development environment. Adopting an agile approach and using IBM Rational software have helped the team reduce the amount of preparation required for status meetings by 75 percent and improved the efficiency of status meetings, decreasing meeting times by 33 percent.
