IBM® WebSphere® DataPower® Edge Appliance XE82 provides traffic consolidation, monitoring and management, as well as rapid web application delivery at the edge of your network. The appliance provides content-based routing, load balancing and workload management. It offers fine-grained control over caching policies for applications, and the capability to balance both speed and content refresh rate.

WebSphere DataPower Edge Appliance XE82 provides:

Network and application intelligence

Acts as a proxy for web applications including authentication, authorization and auditing (AAA), accelerated encryption/decryption for security offload, content-based routing, session management and other application delivery functions.
Acts as an appliance-based proxy gateway for web application delivery.
Serves as an integrated edge-of-network control proxy for use with IBM WebSphere Application Accelerator for Hybrid Networks.
Functions as an edge-of-network traffic gateway for use with IBM WebSphere Application Accelerator for Public Networks.
Operates as an appliance-based proxy gateway for external application access to software as a service (SaaS) and cloud-based applications.

Centralized governance, security and load balancing

Distributes connections to backend application servers based on their system usage and response time through intelligent load distribution (ILD).
Automatically balances incoming connections over multiple appliances without the need for an external load balancer.
Offers message-content level security and access control, and provides a web application firewall that helps protect against cross-site scripting.
Delivers flexible subscription support for service metadata stored in external repositories such as IBM WebShere Service Registry and Repository.
Supports multiple authentication and authorization mechanisms including Security Assertion Markup Language (SAML).

Advanced content processing and hardware acceleration

Offers XML hardware acceleration capabilities, accelerated encryption and decryption, compilation of Extensible Stylesheet Language (XSL) into machine code instructions and gigabit Ethernet.
Includes intelligent cache control to help consolidate functions and simplify deployment of your application infrastructure.
Correlates request and response messages and helps optimize throughput by buffering or streaming network input/output as appropriate.
Provides dynamic adjustments of application traffic to help optimize server use, response time and throughput.
Provides application optimization (AO) and built-in IBM Tivoli® Identity and Access Manager support.
