New capabilities of IBM® Tivoli® OMEGAMON® XE for Mainframe Networks V5.1 are designed to:

  • Improve the efficiency of problem resolution by requiring fewer steps to isolate
    root cause of performance problems in real time, and therefore, enabling higher
    availability.

  • Improve visibility, control, and automation with a new more comprehensive
    enhanced 3270-based UI capable of viewing the entire enterprise-wide
    environment from a single 3270 screen.

  • Reduce the time required for installation, configuration, and maintenance
    by leveraging enhanced Tivoli Monitoring functions and a new PARMGEN
    configuration tool.

  • Include an enterprise end-to-end view of performance monitoring and availability
    on a common technology for both z/OS and open systems.

In addition:

IBM Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Mainframe Networks allows proactive monitoring and managing network performance of z/OS system resources and critical applications. OMEGAMON XE for Mainframe Networks collects network performance data across z/OS systems, whether it’s TCP/IP resources, SNA resources, or a combination of both, and presents the information in the Tivoli Enterprise Portal (TEP)

When a network performance problem – or potential problem – occurs, alerts are raised by OMEGAMON XE for Mainframe Networks or sent to event managing solutions such as IBM Tivoli Event Console or IBM NetView for z/OS. For example, Tivoli OMEGAMON XE for Mainframe Networks will analyze network performance among CICS, DB2, IMS and other key systems to identify resource loss and unstable connections, helping your business maintain the availability and performance you need to achieve business service levels.

Network data is available across the z/OS enterprise. The nimble 3270 interface is designed from the ground up as a problem solving tool, while the robust GUI interface provides detailed (but simple to implement) alerting, versatile monitoring dashboards, and the ability to drill down to get detaeils. Network components can be viewed as a whole as well as individual components.

Dynamic Workspace Linking (DWL) allows you to easily navigate between Tivoli Enterprise Portal workspaces. The advanced linking of DWL aids problem determination, improves integration across your monitoring solutions, and allows you to quickly determine the root cause of a problem. Predefined cross-product links provided by the OMEGAMON XE products allow you to obtain additional information about systems, subsystems, resources or network components that are being monitored and managed.
