Grazie alla sua conformità ai principi della SOA (Service-Oriented Architecture), il nuovo software WebSphere fornisce una piattaforma di gestione flessibile e modulare per i servizi di telecomunicazione di nuova generazione:

WebSphere IMS Connector aggiunge alla piattaforma leader di settore WebSphere Application Server (WAS) V6.1 specifiche interfacce IMS utili ad ottenere un Application server SIP conforme agli standard IMS.

Grazie al supporto su un'unica piattaforma delle applicazioni HTTP e SIP conformi ad IMS, WebSphere IMS Connector, insieme a WebSphere Application Server, consente una reale convergenza delle applicazioni IMS che possono essere sviluppate e implementate su un'unica piattaforma di esecuzione dei servizi. In questo modo, i clienti e i Business Partner possono ridurre la complessità ed i costi delle soluzioni IMS.

WebSphere IMS Connector aggiunge alla piattaforma WebSphere Application Server due elementi chiave di interfaccia conforme a IMS, come definito da 3GPP (3rd Generation Partnership Project) ed IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force):

L'interfaccia ISC di WebSphere IMS Connector consente il controllo della sessione, supportando le comunicazioni tra le applicazioni eseguite su WebSphere Application Server e i diversi CSCF del piano di controllo IMS. Consente inoltre di specificare i parametri SIP, incluse le intestazioni private IMS, da utilizzare nelle varie applicazioni.

Il supporto dell'interfaccia ISC bidirezionale in WebSphere IMS Connector consente anche di massimizzare la flessibilità delle applicazioni permettendo l'implementazione delle applicazioni in base ai ruoli di agenti utente back-to-back, di origine e di terminazione.

Le interfacce e il Diameter stack in WebSphere IMS Connector forniscono connettività di facile utilizzo per la gestione degli abbonamenti e dei sistemi di fatturazione. Includono un'interfaccia Sh standard per la gestione dei profili degli abbonati e un'interfaccia Rf standard per gli addebiti off-line, come definito dagli standard 3GPP.

IBM collabora attivamente con i NEP (Network Equipment Providers) per garantire l'interoperabilità di WebSphere IMS Connector con gli elementi di rete principali IMS forniti dai NEP. Reduce Programming Complexity via Diameter Web Services

WebSphere IMS Connector significantly reduces the programming complexity of the Diameter interfaces to the application developer by providing a Web services layer to all the supported APIs (Sh. Ro and Rf). These simple Web services abstractions hide the complexities of interfacing with the Diameter elements using binary protocols. These Web services can also be used as component APIs for service orchestration and choreography in an SOA deployment. Raw Diameter APIs can also be used.

Service Creation Support and Interoperability

WebSphere IMS Connector also provides support for service creation through associated tooling, such as SIP Servlet APIs and programmable IMS APIs, made available as Eclipse plug-ins. With SIP tooling that is part of the WebSphere Application Server Toolkit and also available as a separate Eclipse-based plug-in, IBM provides support for building HTTP Servlets, SIP Servlets, and Portlets in a single integrated development environment. IMS enablement tooling includes support for IBM-defined Diameter Web services, a standard set of Parlay X 2.1 APIs, as well as sample applications. The product also provides REST-style access to Sh subscriber profile web service, which extends the channel support to include HTTP access in addition to the existing SOAP access.

WebSphere IMS Connector also provides the benefits of the integration testing performed by IBM and its business partners to accelerate deployments in an IMS architecture.

With WebSphere IMS Connector , CSPs and ISVs can build IMS-compliant, converged HTTP and SIP applications and deploy them to a single service execution platform, reducing the complexity and cost of their solutions.
