- Supports processing of UTF-8, UTF-16 and UTF-32 character encoding, allowing you to handle data generated in any code page.
- Supports IBM Debug Tool for z/OS, a source-level tool that allows you to examine, monitor and control the execution of C, C++, COBOL and PL/I programs.
- Provides compatibility with previous versions of PL/I compilers and ongoing enhancements.
Web interoperability
- Allows PL/I transactions to process inbound and outbound XML data within applications.
- Supports XML attributes and omission of null values for improved web interoperability.
- Supports the IEEE decimal floating point standard, which allows the compiler to receive, manipulate and send Java data without the need for translation.
Middleware support
- Provides integrated SQL and CICS preprocessors to enhance the design of applications in a CICS or IBM DB2® environment.
- Handles exec SQL statements in the same way as any macro facility, eliminating the need for precompiling.
Integration and collaboration tools
- Integrates with the application development environment (IDE) delivered with IBM Rational® Developer for IBM System z®.

Enterprise PL/I for z/OS V4.3 runs under the control of, or in conjunction with, the currently supported releases of the following programs and their subsequent releases or their equivalents. For more information on the following programs that require program temporary fixes (PTFs), refer to the Program Directory and the preventive service planning (PSP) bucket.
