IBM® DB2® Express-C is a no-charge community edition of DB2 server which provides the core features of the more scalable DB2 editions. It is designed for ease of use and fast setup, making it ideal for academia, small businesses, multi-branch companies and the developers and business partners who work with them.
IBM DB2 Express-C is optimized to use up to two processor cores and 4 GB of memory and includes self-managing capabilities.
DB2 Express-C:
- Uses Time Travel Query to provide bi-temporal data management.
- Delivers an integrated tools environment with IBM Data Studio for easier management and development.
- Includes Graph Store technology to efficiently store graph triples for reduced costs and enhanced performance.
- Contains the SQL Compatibility feature making it easier to run applications written for other major databases, on DB2.
- Incorporates IBM Mobile Database sync and support for high-performance data synchronization.
Uses Time Travel Query
- Allows data to be queried as it currently exists at points in the past, or as it will be at some point in the future.
- Provides the infrastructure for time-aware analytics to run time-specific queries.
- Helps reduce the operational complexity of collecting and analyzing time-based data while offering significant performance and management benefits.
Delivers an integrated tools environment
- IBM Data Studio (separately downloadable) delivers an integrated, modular environment for database development and administration of IBM DB2 for Linux®, UNIX® and Microsoft® Windows®.
- Enables developers and administrators to create and manage heterogeneous database environments for increased productivity.
- Offers an optional yearly subscription for users who require technical support or additional functionality, such as high availability, SQL replication, and row and column access control.
Includes Graph Store technology
- Includes a NoSQL Graph Store to optimize how you store and work with graph triples inside DB2.
- Allows you to store graph triples and take advantage of other DB2 benefits, including ACID (Atomicity, Consistency, Isolation, Durability) compliance, data compression, parallel execution, load balancing, advanced security, and backup and recovery.
Contains the SQL Compatibility feature
- Helps significantly reduce the risk and cost associated with database migration.
- Runs applications built to work with comparable Oracle databases on DB2 with few or no code changes.
- Makes data server consolidation much easier and helps reduce operational costs further.
Incorporates IBM Mobile Database sync and support
- Manages data on mobile and embedded devices and allows for high-performance database synchronization.
- Uses the relational IBM Mobile Database on your mobile device, typically as an embedded database that users access through an application.
- Works with IBM solidDB® and its advanced replication and universal cache capabilities to synchronize data between mobile devices and IBM databases.
