WebSphere Application Server Technical Overview

IBM® WebSphere® Application Server serves applications from the front office to the back office -whether mobile, Web, cloud or mission-critical enterprise applications-to support seamless Systems of Interaction.

All production editions come with entitlement to use the WebSphere Liberty Profile—a simplified, lightweight, dynamic runtime suitable for development and production which allows configuration and application updates without restarting the server runtime. The Liberty Profile continues to provide enterprise level quality of service, security and transaction integrity while maintaining its small footprint.

  • Profil Liberty sur Raspberry Pi pour piloter une voiture télécommandée

Liberty profile on Raspberry Pi drives remote-control car

In 2012 we demonstrated the first application server running on a Raspberry Pi with the Liberty profile. Next we showed the Liberty profile running on a mobile phone. Now the team has gone even further and has a Liberty profile server running on and controlling a radio controlled car! Introducing the truly mobile application server!

The Liberty Car is a remote-controlled car that has a Raspberry Pi with a web application running on a Liberty server controlling it – all processing and logic is local to the car. The car has its own Wi-Fi network that is operated from a USB-powered router under the chassis - anyone in range with a Wi-Fi device and a JavaScript-capable web browser can control it. Everything is powered from a single battery in the car so it is a completely self-contained setup. The only thing you need in addition to what is included in the car is a device (such as a mobile phone, tablet, or PC) to control it.

WebSphere Application Server is a proven, high-performance transaction engine that can help build, run, integrate, and manage dynamic web applications.

The latest edition of WebSphere Application Server introduces new options for the development community with the lightweight Liberty profile option and development tool options. Operations are enhanced with Intelligent Management capabilities that minimize end-user outages and maximize operations monitoring and control of the production environment. Compare the available editions to find the one that is right for your company's needs.
