Serving as the central repository and automation engine for your critical business rules, the powerful and intuitive interface of IBM Operational Decision Manager is easily used by both IT and line-of-business rule owners. IBM Operational Decision Manager adds agility and real-time decision making to your day-to-day operations, while enabling quick optimization and change management capabilities to keep up with the pace of your business. IBM Operational Decision Manager is available in multiple editions and can be delivered as a service on the IBM Cloud or on your own infrastructure.

Automated business rules deliver business agility

Business agility depends on responsive, intelligent decision automation. IBM Operational Decision Manager enables you to separate business rules from business applications, providing you with the flexibility required to quickly respond to the changing needs of your business.

Real-time decisions based on real-time data

In a customer-centric, mobile world, you need to analyze a constant and ever-growing feed of data and events that impact business decisions. IBM Operational Decision Manager helps to optimize that decision making with accuracy and speed, identifying the risks and opportunities on a continuous basis so you can take the right action at the right moment.

Tools that enable collaboration across the organization

IBM Operational Decision Manager includes a central business rules repository, providing a single source for business rules that unifies decision making for consistency across the organization. The easy-to-use interface allows non-programmers to make real-time updates to business rules. This enables effective collaboration where architects, developers and administrators develop and maintain the decision services, while business analysts, policy managers and rule authors develop and maintain the decision logic.

Case studies

Today’s business requires near-instant and consistent decision making, combined with the flexibility needed to respond to market changes with agility. As part of a comprehensive digital process automation (DPA) platform, IBM Operational Decision Manager helps organizations in all industries achieve these results across critical use cases.

Reducing risk and ensuring compliance

Banking and insurance organizations operate in highly regulated markets. Non-compliance is simply not an option; between fines and erosion of customer trust, the costs are too high. Those in the banking and insurance industries must continuously adapt their systems and applications to comply with ever-changing regulations, and document their operations for compliance audits. Additionally, it’s difficult to identify where compliance updates must be performed within applications, and there’s a risk of misinterpreting new regulations in many manual operations.

IBM Operational Decision Manager helps banking and insurance organizations capture, update and automate their day-to-day repetitive business decisions and improve their compliance process. Using IBM Operational Decision Manager, business decisions driving operations can be easily created or updated anytime a new regulation is issued. Business decisions are captured using natural, easy-to-understand language, and the business logic that automates your banking operations is self-explanatory. Increased automation of business decisions limits interpretation risk, and with IBM Operational Decision Manager you can automate more decisions and log them for precise documentation and audit trails.

Proactively countering fraud

Fraud today is sophisticated. Perpetrators of fraud are continuously adapting their strategies to work around new fraud detection patterns. Adding more people to your organization’s fraud detection effort is costly and doesn’t yield meaningful improvement in outcomes. You need intelligent systems to analyze historical banking transactions to filter suspicious actions from legitimate ones.

can detect and react to threats and opportunities and quickly respond to changing business conditions — so your fraud detection systems adapt as fast as new threats appear. IBM Operational Decision Manager stores, manages and executes fraud detection decisions in a centralized environment, and gives you the ability to update them without the need for IT support. The ODM solution from IBM assembles historical actions and analytical models to provide decision contexts and identify fraudulent transactions, and decision services automates your systems’ response to frequently occurring and repeated fraudulent transactions, freeing your experts to focus on exceptions.

Optimizing pricing and packaging

Businesses face numerous obstacles to dynamic pricing and personalized packaging, particularly managing this at scale. This could range from the inability to use customer data and preferences, the inability to accurately detect prices based on market conditions and profitability or even the inability to roll out price and packaging changes quickly.

IBM Operational Decision Manager can help streamline and scale pricing and packaging systems to improve quote consistency and tailor packaging to customer preferences. The ODM solution from IBM enables online companies to tailor products and prices to an individual’s spending inclination, using rich information within the database about the customer, market to even how the competitors book.
