Flexible hybrid service to meet your unique requirements

Accommodate data growth, expand geographic access to data, help improve resiliency and more with a flexible hybrid service from IBM.

Extend your data storage into the IBM Cloud

The IBM Cloud Object Storage Hybrid Service enables you to expand your data storage across your own data centers and into one or more geographically dispersed IBM data centers in the worldwide network of IBM Cloud.

Customize the cloud environment by selecting IBM Cloud data centers for your isolated, hybrid service. The IBM onboarding team helps design, deploy and configure the hybrid environment for your precise needs.

Retain control

Enable your IT teams to control day-to-day functions of the hybrid service—including systems monitoring, reporting and access control—using a simple management portal and RESTful, OpenStack Swift or S3–compatible APIs.

Optimize your budget

Optimize CapEx and OpEx spending. Purchase the IBM Cloud Object Storage Hybrid Service components that are resident in your data centers. Pay for the rest of the components that are assigned to you in the IBM Cloud—including any bandwidth used beyond a threshold that comes free with the Hybrid Service—on a monthly basis.

Scale into the cloud—transparently

Select IBM Spectrum Scale™ Transparent Cloud Tiering for moving cold data that is taking up space in your IBM Spectrum Scale environment to IBM Cloud Object Storage. Or store unstructured data from remote offices and mobile users in IBM Cloud Object Storage and transfer it to IBM Spectrum Scale for analytics and other applications requiring high throughput. Transparent Cloud Tiering provides seamless transfer of content to or from IBM Cloud Object Storage, creating a truly hybrid cloud solution.

Analyst report: Frost & Sullivan, Five Reasons the New IBM Cloud Object Storage May Solve Your Enterprise Data Storage Challenges

Here are five reasons why IBM Cloud Object Storage might be just what your organization needs.

Features

Flexible

Customize the Hybrid Service to meet your specific data needs. Implement active storage for cloud-native applications such as Internet of Things and mobile apps. Or use cloud storage for less frequently accessed backups, archived data and content repositories.

Scalable

Start small, with less than 1 PB of initial capacity. Scale to virtually unlimited capacity. Pay by the month—prices are based on your system configuration.

Resilient

Avoid downtime during hardware or software maintenance, power outages and link or site failures. Depending on the IBM Cloud data centers you choose, you can also maintain availability during a region-wide outage caused by natural disasters such as earthquakes or floods.

Secure

Maintain tight security. Data at rest is protected with automatic provider-side AES-256 bit encryption and SHA-256 hash. Data in motion is secured using built-in carrier grade TLS/SSL or SNMPv3 with AES encryption. Credentials are generated and managed for each user access, and all network connections are protected against rogue attacks using digital certificates.
