Produce printed output for COBOL applications faster and more efficiently
IBM® COBOL Report Writer is a built-in, non-procedural facility for the production of printed output. This add-on program defines and produces all the listings, reports and displayed summaries that would normally be required in a COBOL application. Now you can significantly reduce the time and effort required to code and test a COBOL program with printed output.
COBOL Report Writer improves:
- Productivity—saves time coding a print layout by defining it in the data division. You can move and edit data automatically and perform such tasks as page headings and footings, totaling, displaying dates and organizing tables.
- Flexibility—supports several printed outputs. COBOL Report Writer prints lines, pages and sophisticated layouts anywhere within a COBOL program. It requires fewer procedure division statements because they print whole blocks of lines at once.
- Ease-of-use—implements the report writing features using a precompiler rather than within the compiler itself. COBOL Report Writer makes the precompiler phase transparent to programmers, so their attention is not distracted from the original report writing source. It includes an environment in which the precompiler and the compiler cooperate closely in a single-step operation.
